This project included installations of 4,800 LF of 36” pipe including three crossing installations via the Direct Pipe® method. Direct Pipe® uses a single-pass tunneling method that combines microtunneling and a steerable tunnel-boring, machine cutting head to directly tunnel and install the pipe simultaneously. The method is particularly beneficial to use in this region because of challenging, swamp-like soil conditions and limited workspace on the crossings’ exit locations that are not conducive to traditional HDD techniques.
The three crossing installations (1,670 LF, 1,680 LF, and 810 LF) deliver natural gas to the liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal. This project was the first LNG project to receive regulatory approval in the United States of America.
