To kick off the 2013 Campaign for Change community advocacy initiative, Strike partnered with Freedom Place. Freedom Place provides a safe environment and rehabilitation program for young girls rescued from human trafficking. Texas is considered the epicenter of human trafficking in the United States. According to the Department of Justice, Houston is one of the most intense human trafficking regions in the country, with one out of five trafficked persons passing through this city.
On March 9th, Strike volunteers arrived at the Freedom Place property, ready and willing to help wherever needed. One group cleared debris to make room for a garden while other groups sorted clothing, toiletries, blankets and other everyday necessities. At the end of the day, everyone wanted to continue working to help provide a brighter tomorrow for these young girls.
In addition, over $10,000 was donated to help Freedom Place in their continued fight to end human trafficking.
